Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
Is history repeating? From the BBC website June 2001...

Roeder's appointment comes after West Ham's failed attempts to lure a succession of top-flight managers. Once a row over transfer funds ended with Redknapp's departure, Steve McClaren turned the job down, while Alan Curbishley, David Moyes and Alex McLeish were also linked with the vacancy.

It looks like Benitez was the plan which has now been ruined by Real. Moyes doesn't want it, Klopp doesn't want it, Howe doesn't want it. It's looking like we'll have to appoint Bilic as last man standing. I'm worried.

I'd rather that in the short term, yes.

Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
I can't help but worry we are in a sense. I don't think the prospect of working for the circus act trio in charge is that inticing, they're all media whores and have undermined managers and made things awkward in the past, along with Sullivans off spring trapping off on twitter it all seems needlessly unprofessional at times.

The one big difference between now and then though is G&S are willing to pay big money and the club are on the cusp of becoming a much wealthier business, someone decent must fancy the chance of building a top side here.

It's all on G&S, fingers crossed they don't fuck it up.

I've never seen a more tactically clueless, inept manager than the hapless Glenn Roeder - he was so bad the poor bloke almost killed himself...

Avram Grant was lame but he had an excuse because the quality of his squad was absolute garbage - he had more mercenaries than a jungle republic with a patsy dictator...

Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
You'd be happy to see a new manager and the club being relegated, Peroni?

Thank God we've got slightly more sensible people running the club.

Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
Most people attribute the mess entirely to the manager and his tactics. If so, once he's removed so instantly is the problem.

FWIW I think injuries and the horror run of fixtures between jan and April also are a large factor. But neither of those should be a factor next season either.

Seems like it unless the owners have someone better than bilic in mind

Have you seen our performances since Christmas? We're in a fucking mess with no sign of improvement.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Bilic is as bad as Roeder but that really is the feint praise, and I wouldn't really want to see Bilic jn charge given his recent record. We should be attracting a really good manager now.

CaistorPark 1:34 Sun May 24
Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
Bilic = took Locomotiv Moscow to their worst ever league position in the Russian Championship + sacked by Besiktas 2 years into a 3 year contract.

Surely we can do better than this?

The owners talk the talk, so now let's see them walk the walk and do something great for the club.

Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
We currently have the 13th highest paid manager in the world. We had apparently agreed terms with Benitez before Real Madrid came into the equation. We are not a bargain basement outfit as far as manger's salary is concerned. Got to be a lot of potential takers.

Talk of McLeish is paranoia.

Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
What mess are we in, exactly? I don't think the club is in a mess at all. We have a decent squad and good infrastructure. I think we are a good proposition and any manager worth his salt shouldn't have to do much to improve things if as many people say Allardyce was the only thing preventing us being a top 8 side.

The only worry is whether the owners target/employ the right man for the job. The identity of the next manager will say everything about who they are and what their intentions for the club are. If it's a mclaren or a Mcleish or a lambert, then we have a problem.

Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
Roeder = relegated gilingham and Watford

Bilic = manager of Croatia for 6 years also club manager in Russian and Turkish leagues

Yep same thing

Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
Fuck me there's some right pussies following our club these days. Tossing and turning at night, waking up in a cold sweat at the though of the biggest, negative cunt of a manager not having his contract renewed.

Fuck him, it could have been so different but he's blown the chance of actually achieving something in his career and proved incapable of taking us forward.

I can't wait for the next chapter, and fully expect it to be a struggle for any manager clearing up the mess we're in. If that means another play-off final in a year or two - fucking brilliant.

Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
The worry is that IF there was an agreement with Benitez that he's now gone back on after the wheels were already set in motion with respect to Allardyces departure, then where does that leave us with regard to an alternative?

El Scorchio 12:55 Sun May 24
Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
I don't think they will intentionally appoint someone on the cheap, so in that respect we won't have another Roeder situation. I just hope to god that they already have a solid agreement in place with someone who can progress the playing side of the club.

However it may please some people to just have anyone else managing the team, change for changes sake is stupid. I am all for a new manager if they are better for the club, so I hope we end up with an improvement. 'Anyone but Allardyce' isn't an improvement.

Re: Are we heading for another Roeder scenario?
I suggest what most are wishing for is some entertainment, a team that attempts to win every game and a manager that appears to be proud and committed to be associated with West Ham United.

It isn't setting the bar so high.

We will be fine. We have a decent squad and will attract a decent, if not perfect, manager who will lead us into the OS

Just be careful.

Has that wanker Brown ever tried to justify him giving Roader the job? An absolute basket case appointment if there ever was one.
